Cowal Texels was founded in 1983 by Keith, Allan and Roy Campbell at Drimsynie Estate, Lochgoilhead, Argyllshire on the picturesque west coast of Scotland, where the Campbell family also run a successful hotel and holiday letting business on the beautiful shores of Loch Goil about an hour north west of Glasgow.
The flock was established with the purchase of a ewe lamb from Morgan Milne’s famous Turin flock, which was one of the original flocks in the UK. She was then joined by two females from Keith Jamieson’s Annan Flock, particularly chosen for their character and conformation and with the addition of females from Nethermuir, Craighead, Halbeath, Grougfoot, Ettrick and Haddo, all chosen with the same criteria in mind, the flock now maintains 55 home bred ewes, all related to these original females. Since its foundation, the Cowal flock has strived to maintain a flock with particularly good character and skins and is well known for its outstanding success in the show ring, most notably with females and performance recorded rams as well as having a highly successful sale history.
As well as breeding sheep of good character, skins and frame, the Campbell family have paid particular attention to their choice of stock rams over the years, enabling them to produce rams for the current market and with the aid of 20 years of performance recording and high health scheme status, have ensured that the Cowal Flock has moved with the times.
The family are most proud of the fact that and many of their ewes and rams have gone on to breed well in numerous flocks.
